Now that I’m in a business school that’s focused on entrepreneurship, I’ve realized that success comes from curiosity and passion more than anything else. Successful entrepreneurs always talk about being “lucky,” and how they were in the right place at the right time, but I think it’s more than luck. They put themselves in the right place because they want to be involved with their product categories. I don’t know if I should pursue a career in food and cooking, or keep it as my “happy place” – but maybe you should try to be in your “happy place” all the time. I don’t know. I’m going to caramelize some onions and think about this more.

I’m eating: spinach, onion, and tomato omelet with egg beaters and laughing cow cheese.

The plan is to build cornhole boards this summer to add that to my game repertoire. Among the favorites now: Bananagrams (speed scrabble), cranium, and scattergories. Now that it’s nice out, I  need more outdoor activities. Any other favorites?

Charlotte and I wrote the lyrics and Ari and I directed and edited it. I can’t get over how amazing it was to work with them…from beginning to end, it was such a fun, challenging, and rewarding project. I can’t wait to do it again!

Do you think FCINO is going to catch on?

I don’t know why that exact expression comes to mind, but some recent events make me think about how important people are, and after that, how little everything else matters. Tragedy often makes you account for all the good things you have.

Wonderful people have been lost far too early. CCHS ’02 lost some bright stars before they got a chance to light up the sky. It doesn’t make sense and it feels totally unjust, but I wonder if we can do something with the enormity of this loss.

How would they have changed the world? What would have driven them? What would they have accomplished? Can we compensate by loving more, working harder, running faster, and being funnier?

Probably not, but I will carry their memories with me as a reminder that there is just as much to be done, and we’re missing a couple brilliant people that could have helped.

Anyway, I’ve decided to start a girl scout troop. My best friends Holly and Julie are inaugural members. Today we earned badges for paraffin hand treatments, bread making, and beauty pageants.

This afternoon Holly was telling me about practicing mindfulness – where you take time to focus on the present and the essence of the moment. I’d like to incorporate mindfulness purposefully into my life, but I do feel like I’m pretty good at appreciating “now” without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. I’ve recently noticed that I have moments of stillness where I am overcome with a combination of peacefulness, thankfulness, and happiness. It is all a function of the people who surround me. I am incredibly lucky to have such remarkable people in my life: my parents, my friends, my boyfriend, my sisters…they’re just the best people in the world, and they’re all invited to be part of my girl scout troop.
